Lisa Cilva Ward's professional history includes plenty of time in the restaurant business. Her personal philosophy is that everyone should, at some point in their lives, make a living waiting tables or cleaning houses (she has done both). This ensures a certain amount of perspective in whatever may follow afterward, and for those in business, ensures that they treat every staff member with respect for the hard work they do. Her first jobs were in restaurants, and upon moving from Redondo Beach, California to Park City in 1981, she worked in restaurants while putting herself through college at the University of Utah, were she earned a degree in Organizational and Interpersonal Communication. Lisa and her husband Jeff met and worked together from the mid to late '80s as captains in the Glitretind restaurant at the Stein Eriksen Lodge. After finishing undergrad and graduate studies, while Jeff stayed in the restaurant business, Lisa started a communications consulting firm and for over 20 years, has specialized in writing, editing, public relations, marketing and community relations. While Jeff was building 350 Main Brasserie and The Spur Bar and Grill, Lisa was continually involved in that company, advising on staff training, strategic visioning, corporate communications, marketing and branding, and strategic public and community relations.
In addition to owning Silver Star Café with Jeff, she continues to run her own company, Ward Communications, where she balances between business communications and organizational development for her clients, and creative writing such as essays and magazine articles. Lisa does the marketing, public relations and community relations for Silver Star Café, and can also be found at the Café on busy days hosting groups, clearing tables, delivering food to guests, pouring wine, and anything else that needs to be done to support the staff.
Since 1998, Lisa has also served as co-director of the Leadership Park City program, mentoring over 500 adults and youth in leadership, volunteerism, and civic engagement. She is the recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award and the Preceptor Award from the International Community Leadership Association, as well as Utah Best of State awards. An active community steward, she serves on boards and committees for school district, Chamber of Commerce, youth sport, and municipal work groups, and served for seven years on the Utah Advisory Board of the Sundance Institute.
Lisa and her husband, Jeff, have two sons, and live in Park City.
